The cross-marketing campaign for Mass Effect 3 is a universe unto itself, spanning action figures, books, and more. Here's another way for you to get virtual gear from the Mass Effect franchise: Facebook.

Mass Effect 3 Mission Command on Facebook will let you spam your friends in various "missions" that will help you unlock Xbox Live Avatar items, add-ons, and more. According to a promotional invite to the program, "your decisions will determine the rewards." The more you interact with the app, the more chances you'll have to earn a "custom Paragon or Renegade Xbox 360 with Kinect."

The first "mission" will have you signing up for the Facebook app. According to the site, if the promotion gets "enough recruits," everyone will be able to receive the Normandy prop for their Xbox Live Avatar.

Future "missions" may involve a bit more creativity. For example, next week's challenge will have members submitting a "pick up" or "rejection" line to Liara for a chance to win early access to the Mass Effect 3 demo. A future mission will have you creating a video recreating moves from the game for a chance to win a Mass Effect 3 customized Xbox 360 system with Kinect.

I have a strange feeling this stuff is going to culminate in a Mcdonald's Happy meal toy series.

I've never had a Happy Meal so I looked it up on Wikipedia to see what's even in one. It says that Australian Happy Meals include apple slices with either tomato or barbecue sauce. What a frightful combination.

Eff this, get me to play this game so EA can mine a bunch of info about me as a person who is interested in Mass Effect. So they can use loopholes in FB Privacy to mine my friends to find out who is friends with a person who likes Mass Effect and do they like Mass Effect too? Sounds like this is more intrusive than its worth.

No it isnt. This dumb marketing should turn off people to playing EA's games. We arent your pawns to promote your products on our facebook pages.

Multiplayer affecting the singleplayer, gimicky facebook bullshit, expecting that people will hate the ending, promises of more DLC to get the whole story...

If you don't like it, don't buy...how is that a stupid reaction?

That's what they want you to think...I could see them keeping the ME universe going via other types of games and then pulling this cross promotion DLC shit because you know ME3 is going to sell a ton.

I'm with you here, there is no way I'm interested in jumping through all these hoops to get single player content in a *gasp* single player game. If the GOTY edition contains all the content without having to do all this other crap then I may consider buying it.

Man, WTF Bioware. Actually, I have a feeling this is all EA.

I honestly can't see the devs being all like: "YEAH. This is a GREAT IDEA!"

Yup, then again, I'm pretty sure Bioware of today is just a shell of it's pre-EA days.

It's all XBox stuff. Or clothes, which would be cool, but the 'missions' for those are a little extreme.

(Unless I could win by "building an omniblade" out of orange crayon and cardboard)
