And the cross-marketing continues...

If you're looking to get every piece of downloadable content being made for Mass Effect 3, get ready to open your wallet. Not only will you have to buy action figures, you'll also have to get a companion art book. Dark Horse Comics' Art of the Mass Effect Universe book, coming out next month, is also offering its own set of bonus DLC.

Pre-ordering the book from BN.com for $27 will net you a "collector's rifle, among other cool content to beat out your opponents." If that sounds like gear for multiplayer, you're right. Dark Horse confirmed that the digital contents will be for the game's online mode.

For those keeping track, Mass Effect 3 DLC is being packaged with pre-orders of the game, its Limited Edition, the Kingdoms of Amalur demo, and action figures. Undoubtedly, even more ways of procuring digital goods are coming.

Normally this wouldn't bother me because I would assume all of these items would be released later on.

But I'm still sore that never happened with ME2's promotional bonus items. Looks like same story for ME3.

Now I want to see some indie developer make a game that harvests forum posts and and makes gameplay out of it.

EA has gone mad with DLC. Mad I tell you.

ME2 has me worried because I think ME2's DLC strategy is the new norm for EA. There was a good amount of DLC for ME2 but I think Xbox Live has only seen a sale on it twice and those sales are easy to miss. Waiting doesn't seem to avail me anything and if it wasn't such a highly regarded series I would have passed on it.

This is the kind of stuff that is going to get more and more people to wait for 'Ultimate' and 'GOTY' editions...

I've pre-ordered it because I want the CE. If it weren't for that, I'd wait too.

Except they won't release one. I was waiting for a ME2 GOTY edition but it's not coming.

I suspect the fact that the DLC is mostly multiplayer-centric is meant to mitigate this.

I was going to joke about how the Art Book would include DLC because I didn't read the article or even the full title, then at the last minute I bothered to read the title and realised BioWare had beaten me to it.

I ate a banana today and found a code for ME3 DLC -- inside the skin! It shouldn't even be possible! I see ME3 DLC codes when I stare at my wall too long! Alphabet soup? Forget about it! I don't even look at the snot after I finish blowing my nose, fearing EA will have gotten there before me.

I'm there. When I'm really invested in a game and it's world, I love peripheral content like this. I'll probably pick this up pretty quickly. I'm more interested in the book itself, the DLC is a great "plus" for me.
