S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 development continuing
Work on survival shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will continue at GSC Game World, the troubled developer has confirmed. Reports last year had suggested it would be shutting down, so huzzah!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 developer GSC Game World hinted in December that there was "cause for hope," following reports that the troubled Ukranian studio was shutting down. "Official news" was expected in January, and now it's confirmed: work on the survival shooter sequel will continue.
"The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays," reads a message posted yesterday by the official Facebook account.
Of course, exactly what has happened, and under what conditions work continues are unknown for now. One of the reported reasons behind GSC's potential closure was a failure to secure a console publisher for the game, supposedly too costly to develop only for PC. We should hear the full story in time, but for now: huzzah!

It's VERY hard at the start. You assault this group of bandits with a shitty pistol at the start, then later have to go through a blockade under the train tracks. You can avoid this blockade, there's a tunnel full of anomalies you can go through.
The Complete mod is one package, just run the exe to install:

Its main goal was higher res textures but it changes everything. Enabling stealth and headshots makes your early encounter a bit easier as you can sneak up and headshot the dudes with the shitty pistol you get. The game gets much easier with a scoped rifle if you're good at twitch shooters.
There are invisible enemies but they're pretty rare.-

I didn't even do that one until it was pretty much all I had left to do in the Warehouses. By then I was a killing machine, so it wasn't as bad as I feared. :D
How about the first bloodsucker mission in Call of Pripyat? Holy fuck, I was down in that basement when a blowout happened- almost had to change my pants! The same thing happened later when I was going after the stash in the car down in that crack near the Claw anomaly - and I hate Snorks. :( -

The best way to get started I found was to do a bunch of Sid's missions right off the bat (after doing Hunter's and Nimble's missions) and loot the shit out of all dead dudes, selling what you don't want to Sid to upgrade your shit as quick as you can before you try to cross the rail bridge - and make sure you get an MP5 from the bandits (after helping what's his name with the blind dogs) before you leave for the Garbage.

Good point.
I found the game pretty rough at first to be honest, but I went back a second time since then really enjoyed it.
Once you know how the mechanics work even the start of the game is pretty easy (especially if you find the hidden mercenary suit in the starting camp and gather some bandages before the farmhouse fight). Just got to be really careful going into that battle... -

I was thinking should I play Stalker? Then I looked up bloodsucker videos and I was like nope.avi
This one made me jump when it revealed itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlqxFKL0l58 -

I've gotten a bit into SoC with the C'09 mod. It has a special atmosphere which is improved by the mod, and some nice gameplay elements but it's just so rough. There's annoying quest bugs, and I really dislike respawning enemies and patrols. The quests should be fewer and more meaningful, and what you do in the world there should be persistent.

Really good news! The industry needs devs like GSC who do something a bit different.
For anyone interested in playing the original, grab it on Steam and install the complete mod (http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009). It fixes bugs and updates the graphics engine, don't worry about playing vanilla. Really worth playing. -
