Fortnite is Epic Games' new title

Epic Games said their next game would be "fresh" and very different. And boy, Fortnite looks nothing like Gears of War. It's also not Jazz Jackrabbit, we're afraid.
Fortnite has players building forts against invading monsters. Perhaps it's an expansion of Gears of War 3's Horde mode? The visuals are cartoony, and invite comparisons to Valve's Team Fortress 2.

I hope they go to town and make it a crazy sandbox in terms of building like you're in Garry's mod or something. if it's just another tower defense game or zombie shooter that would be pointless.

I find this hysterical. Going by the gameplay footage and the name of the title. The game should basically be exactly what Jeff Cannata loves about MineCraft

Sounds like I'm waiting for the next next game from Epic. I'm not a fan of Type-A Tetris, nor of horde mode, nor of tower defense, so I'll have to pass. There definitely is a substantial audience for this game, though.

Don't take their developed stuff for granted.
The Gears series is one of the best selling games of this console generation, I think they are past 15 million units now. Who knows how much DLC money they've made on that as well.

No doubt it will incorporate tower defense elements. I'm guessing that it's basically Orcs Must Die, but in a post-apocalyptic setting and with co-op.

Will it have single player? Can I build forts with the computer that don't suck? Will there be a optimal solution for fort building that takes away from more creative solutions? Are there going to be fixed levels or procedural? How much replay value will it have if you can only build forts in prescribed areas on the levels?

It wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be a mobile only game. Conceptually, I don't see this being the AAA title that Epic usually aims for.
