Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD coming in summer 2012
Tony Hawk has prematurely revealed "Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD," a high-definition remake of the classic PSone games.
The new Tony Hawk game to be announced at the Spike TV Video Game Awards later tonight isn't exactly a new game per se. The skateboarder has prematurely revealed "Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD." As with previous games with the "HD" moniker, it will be a high-definition remake of the classic games.
But, don't expect a straight up remake of the PSone original. Instead, HD will take "select" levels from Tony Hawk 1 and 2.
Hawk confirmed to Joystiq that Pro Skater HD will be available digitally in "summer 2012." According to One of Swords, it's expected to run in the "$15 range."
For better or for worse, there's no word if Pro Skater HD will be compatible with the poorly-received Tony Hawk Ride controller. Take a look:

"So It's Come To This: A Tony Hawk Clip Show"
At first glance, this seems like a capitulation. When fans were crying out about how bad Ride and Shred were, they said that they wanted something LIKE the old Tony Hawk games, not the old Tony Hawk games themselves.
I'll remember how hard the development was for Ride and Shred after reading the Andrew Hayward story on it ( http://www.1up.com/features/the-fall-of-tony-hawk ), but the end result on the gamer side was shattered expectations on a $100 game, followed by a marketing refocus on Shred to "This game's made for kids!" And all they have left now are re-releases of old THPS levels; not even a revival of the old format, but just a copy-and-paste-plus XBLA / PSN title? Disappointing.
