It's a big day for Bastion. Hot on the heels of the Chrome browser-based version of Supergiant's fine action-RPG comes the announcement of new downloadable content, which will be free on PC and cost only $1 (80 MSP) on Xbox Live Arcade.
Launching on December 14, the 'Stranger's Dream' DLC will add a new Who Knows Where sequence, along with two new modes and accompanying leaderboards.
Supergiant describes the new Who Knows Where sequence as "bigger and more challenging than the others," promising "a bit more insight into Rucks' backstory as well as the history of Caelondia."
The first new mode is Score Attack Mode, which starts you with all Spirits and Idols unlocked. Your fighting prowess is rated, and you can repeat areas to push up your score. Then there's No-Sweat Mode--already available in the Chrome edition--which lets you take it easy and continue from where you died if you snuff it in combat.
Both Score Attack and the new sequence are only unlocked if you've finished Bastion before.
The Steam and Chrome editions will automatically update with the DLC on December 14, while you'll need to download a title update on Xbox 360 first, and it'll be rolled out to other PC digital distributors in a new Bastion installer.
Supergiant explains that the XBLA DLC cannot be free "due to Microsoft policy, so it's about as close as we could get." Lovely!

Except that Uber Entertainment was able to deliver their Monday Night Combat Spunky Cola DLC without charge to Xbox users. Although why should we believe anything they say considering they've said in the past that they had no plans for DLC and "held nothing back" (source: http://www.shacknews.com/article/70035/bastion-dlc-not-planned ) and then pull this.-
That MNC update didn't add any achievements either, which some have claimed is one of the reasons why MS forces devs to charge for DLC in the past. I'm assuming this Bastion addon includes new achievements.
Anyway, it's one fucking dollar. And so what if they said it was complete? That was before the game sold well and fans wanted more. -
