Are you hungry for more Batman: Arkham City? While Rocksteady hasn't said a word about DLC beyond the upcoming map pack, you'll be able to sate your appetite with a new Batman: Arkham-themed app for iOS. The universal app, compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, has already been released in Australia, and is likely coming to the States soon.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios (aka the Mortal Kombat team), Batman: Arkham City Lockdown appears to be a side-scrolling brawler.

Powered by Unreal Engine, Arkham City Lockdown certainly looks and sounds like an Arkham game. However, the gameplay appears to be greatly simplified from the console/PC game, with combat reduced to swipes and gestures on the touch screen. You will generally fight enemies one at a time, but boss battles appear to change up the basic gameplay.

From a narrative perspective, it appears Lockdown takes place before the events of Arkham City, as the game's intro suggests Arkham City has yet to be constructed.

While Lockdown doesn't appear remotely as polished as the game that inspired it, it looks to be a decent-enough tie-in for Arkham addicts. A US release and price has yet to be confirmed, but IGN notes that "it is not unusual for iOS games to hit New Zealand and Australia several hours before the US, Canada, or Europe. Apple sends game live one territory at a time, so many games frequently pop up in early time zones first." You may want to check the App Store later today.
