Online communities are made up of multiple parts, some of which should be dissected from existence. According to a tweet from Infinity Ward's Creative Strategist Robert Bowling, the developer is attempting to rid the Modern Warfare 3 community of its worse element: cheaters.

The tweet reveals that over 1,600 users have been banned from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for utilizing glitches, hacks, and other unnamed cheats.

"Any attempt to cheat, hack, or glitch in [Modern Warfare 3] will not be tolerated," Bowling wrote. "1600+ bans issued. Updates in works. Please cont. to report offenders."

Based on sales figures, 1,600+ users barely scratches the surface for the amount of players partaking in the franchise's online modes. Of course, if you ever find yourself in a room with a cheater, it will probably destroy your desire to ever play the game again.

Good. Ban 'em. If they're banned, does that mean their multiplayer won't work? 'Cause that would be awesome.

I was under the impression it used VAC, but honestly I don't know one way or the other.

Does VAC attempt to do what punkbuster does, and find out if you're cheating in some way?

I was under the impression that it doesn't, but I'm just curious if I'm right on this.

I'm curious as well, though I would doubt it does jack since I still see a cheater every ten matches.

I know that there is a VAC ban, usually put in place by a Valve employee.. and it bans people from more than one server.

Yup, 1600 players is a insanely small amount. Contrary to the security this may insight, there are a lot more cheaters then this online. Playing CoD 4, just about every single game had someone cheating in it. This most definitely seems like manual banning to based on the amount of people banned.

any ban for cheating is better than no ban, even if it only makes a few people stop before applying cheats its better than nothing.
