Battlefield 3 launches with 3 million pre-orders
Battlefield 3 launches today with roughly three million pre-orders already secured, marking a strong launch for EA's attempt to tackle the Call of Duty franchise.
Battlefield 3 is launching today across all platforms, and already EA is popping the champagne. The game has racked up roughly three million pre-orders, guaranteeing an impressive start for its sales figures. But, even with the impressive feat, the game will have to work all the harder to catch up with Call of Duty's mean sales record.
EA posted the pre-order news yesterday, claiming it's the biggest FPS launch in the company's history. The beta also set the company bar, topping its social online play record with nine million testers.
It's an impressive achievement, but worth keeping in mind that Call of Duty: Black Ops sold roughly 5.6 million on launch day. While predictions show that Modern Warfare 3 will easily top the sales figures of Battlefield 3, it's unlikely EA is going to complain about the millions of dollars it will be banking on DICE's shooter.

I didn't think I would be, but I've been really impressed with the Battlelog. Choosing servers is as fast as my browser can render and don't even have to bother with Origin after the install. Much better than having to load a client, sit through stupid intro cinematics I can't skip, wait for the slow steam server browser to come up, then finally launch the real game engine and have to wait for it to load again. Now I'm sitting at work comparing my (bad) stats against everybody on a laptop without Origin installed.

http://www.destructoid.com/battlefield-3-ps3-didn-t-come-with-1943-as-promised-214591.phtml
Earlier in the year, Electronic Arts said (via Sony's Jack Tretton) that Battlefield 3 on the PS3 would ship with a free copy of Battlefield 1943 -- a potentially sweet selling point for the deal-conscious gamer. Well, it wasn't until the game's launch yesterday that customers found out EA had changed the deal. There's no freebie in there.
EA said - "In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers," said the company.
So they aren't providing the free content they promised and are offering to *sell* you content early?
That's even sleazier than the Cat Woman content in Batman AC.
