Catwoman in Arkham City reportedly VIP Pass exclusive

Catwoman is being set aside as a bonus for new purchasers of Batman: Arkham City. The femme fatale will cost extra to those who buy the game used.

Batman: Arkham City is getting more characters, skins, and goodies from various retailers than you can shake a Bat-pole at. But as is the trend recently, it seems you'll need to buy the game new or access a VIP pass to access some of the game features. In Batman's case, it's the femme fatale Catwoman.

Eurogamer reports that early video streams of the game in action reference the VIP pass, included in all new copies of the game. "Catwoman is a unique character with her own story, moves, and weapons," the game reads. "Unlock Catwoman by redeeming the 1st purchaser included in the game case or by visiting Xbox Live Marketplace."

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment confirmed to the online pass to Eurogamer, saying that purchasers of used copies can pick up the VIP pass for 800 MSP. This converts to 7.99 in British pounds, but $9.99 US dollars. "Playing as Catwoman is not required to complete the game."

Catwoman's content includes four campaign story scenes starring the lithe cat burglar, and she's a playable character in the Challenge maps. Reports indicate that the VIP pass unlocks both pieces of content. It's also worth noting that these are probably the pieces of Catwoman DLC spotted last month on a GameStop page. Shacknews has contacted WB to clarify.

In short, if you're a fan of tight black leather and coy "kitty" puns, buy the game new to be on the safe side.

A lot of people poo-poo the pass system, but it's a good system to even out the second hand market a tad.

It's a good system for the company making the game. Which I don't blame them for doing. It sucks for consumers if only because what happens if you have this game fifteen years later and you manage to pick up a "new" used system to play it on? Those servers will be long gone. There won't be a way to play all of the extra content... unless you can track down the inevitable GOTY edition. Which means you either buy this game twice, once now, and once in a year when they have it all on disk or all of the content goes away. That's the disappointing thing about this (and a lot of DLC regardless of the pass system.)

I bet the free version will have Catwoman unlocked.

With all this DLC (this kinda isn't for me as I'd eventually purchase new), I'm far more inclined to just wait for the eventual GotY Edition.

It isn't DLC, it comes with people who buy a new copy.

I'm ok with this, it rewards the customers of the developer, not the customers of the Gamestop flea market.

I already noted that. What I'm saying is that there is so many special this or that's, it makes me want to just wait for the "everything" version.

You always get a better deal if you're willing to wait for the GOTY versions, but as you can understand most people want to play at the same time as everyone else (see: ShackHype).

Doesn't bother me a bit. I have zero interest in used games, usually, anyway...

      Console world problems, man...
