AMD promises driver to fix Rage issues by end of day [Update]
AMD will issue an updated driver later today, which should in theory fix the bugs in the PC version of Rage.
[Update] ATI/AMD have issued updated drivers for Rage, which you can download here.
[Original Story] Rage is suffering from its share of bugs on the PC, but help should be coming soon.
Ironically, players are being told to avoid updating their drivers. "Don't use the current Rage performance driver," an AMD employee said.
According to tweets from AMD Catalyst Creator Andrew D, old OGL files are to blame, and an updated driver is coming later today. "Don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc," read one tweet. "New Rage driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today," said another tweet.
It sounds promising, and John Carmack's initial response to complaints was to update to the latest drivers. However, as previously reported, the Radeon update didn't seem to make significant progress toward fixing the bugs.
In a post on the Bethesda Blog, the company mostly echoes what we've heard elsewhere. Users shouldn't update AMD drivers yet, but a new version is coming soon. Those using Nvidia should update to the current beta driver.

Nothing is fixed. I have texture popping but that's the least of my concerns. I have a smooth game for maybe 1-5 seconds at a time, and then the entire game freezes for 4-10 seconds. Then 1-5 being smooth, and another 4-10 of being completely frozen.
Radeon HD 5770, 5g RAM, dual core 3 GHz CPU.
I haven't even gotten out of the vault yet because the freezing as the door opens is unbearable. Even if I were a saint and had all of the patience in the world the game would still be unplayable.-

As it stands I appear to have a problem installing ANY new drivers for my video card. The install files know I have a 5770 but when I install and reboot, windows 7 automatically starts installing its own drivers which are almost a month old.
Also, I chose "Custom" for the patch that is supposedly going to magically make Rage work and yet I see nothing saying "Video drivers" or hinting that they may be display drivers at all. What are hydravision and amd app sdk runtime? Are they supposed to magically unfuck every one's experience with the game thus far?-

If it wasn't clear, I'm talking about the Device Manager based driver uninstall, not an ATI uninstaller or anything. You should use the ATI uninstaller first, then go to device manager, look at the properties on your display device, go to the drivers tab, click "Uninstall," then check the box marked "Delete the driver software for this device." and click OK. Then reboot and try installing the new ones.

You're assuming a lot. There may have been changes in recent drivers that negatively impacted performance, or they could have had assurances that an updated driver would be ready and it somehow wasn't.
I hardly believe that Id didn't do any testing or that for some malicious reason they decided to release a broken game.

What about my Nvidia card, I get horrific pop-in:
Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz
12GB Viper Xtreme DDR3 2000 (triple channel)
ASUS Rampage III Extreme Mobo LGA 1366
Palit GeforceGTX 560Ti 2GBx2 in SLI (4GB VRAM!)
120GBx2 OCZ Agility 2 SSDs SATA II in Raid 0
1TBx2 WD Caviar Black SATA III in Raid 1
OCZ ZX Series 1250Watt Modular PSU
Corsair Hydro Series H59 CPU Cooler
NZXT Phantom Black Case x7 fans
LG 10x Bluray Burner, etc, etc.-
Well I can see right there that the problem is you're running a case with 7 fans. You need to have either 6 fans or 8 fans so it can run them in triple or dual channel.
You didn't list the important stuff either, like your cable manufacturer (you're using MONSTER cables for power and ethernet, right??), the type of keyboard, the desk it's on, etc.-

rofl, you sir made my day.
Reminds me of an old .gifI have kicking around, with Edward Norton (as Tyler Durden in the corner)
"You are not your fucking system specs.
You are not your uptime stats. your script file, or your oversized desktop screencap.
You are not your broadband connection.
You are not your fucking postcount."

You can use the 11.10 "BF3" preview driver and the OpenGL file from the RAGE driver http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?s=10354065d372839793d8d8064f617508&t=351811&page=2

I imagine they worried more about the console versions, it's a lot easier to release a PC patch than it is to publish one on PSN or XBL, I'd guess.
First bit of the game ran pretty well for me on a Radeon 5770, but now that I'm Wellspring, a lot of the main NPC's are flickering all over the place with artifacts and such all around them.
Guess I'll hold off on playing until ATI and id get their shit together :/
