Sony recently gave vague details on the Resistance 3 beta, but now Insomniac has announced a hefty new set of details. The first wave (for SOCOM 4 purchasers) will start on August 4. Hope you kept that code handy.

Plus subscribers in the US get in on the act next, starting on August 23.

The announcement doesn't mention a public date for the beta, but promises that they'll announce more ways to get into it as we approach the September launch of the game. One such way will be codes given away on Twitter and Facebook by following the Insomniac accounts.

The beta version includes two maps: the Seaside of Glamorgan, Wales, and a trainyard in Bogota, Colombia. The public beta will include two of the five multiplayer modes, team deathmatch and chain reaction. You can get your character up to level 20 in the beta, to unlock weapons, abilities, loadouts, and skins.

Resistance 3 will be available on September 6th.
