Steam gets Dead Island bundle, pre-order exclusive
Potential Dead Island Steam purchasers will get an exclusive weapon for the upcoming zombie-apocalypse title if they pre-order before the game's September 6 release, publisher Deep Silver revealed.
Publisher Deep Silver has announced that the Steam version of its upcoming open-world tropical-zombie-killing sim Dead Island is also getting a pre-order exclusive.
Included with the Steam pre-order is "The Ripper," a weapon that combines the versatility of a baseball bat and the spinning sharpness of a buzz saw. The weapon is also available to console users pre-ordering at GameStop.
Though the game will be available at other digital distributors, Steam is the only retailer promoting the exclusive "Ripper" weapon.
Dead Island's Steam bonuses also include free access to the "Bloodbath Arena" DLC, which is also being made available for pre-order customers looking to slay zombies on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The downloadable content will be made available "one month" following the September 6 release of Dead Island and will also priced at $10 for those that miss a chance to get the content for free.
Additionally, Deep Silver revealed that Steam will sell a bundle of four Dead Island copies for $149.97. The game is available for pre-purchase on Steam today.

Not sure about the Math on that one. $150 = 1 free copy of the game (3x$50), or $12.50 off each copy.
Either way, I am hesitantly optimistic on this one. A more open world then dead rising, coop, and beautiful island scenery seems like a nice place to kills some zombies.
Convincing 3 mates to go all in might be tough though. -

Yeah, you're right, it does seem fanboyish, but when you look at the wider picture of things, less than a decade ago "content management system" to a gamer was:
- A cardboard box with all your retail boxes and CD keys in it
- Years of patches built up in your Downloads folder
- Waiting in a queue at Fileplanet for the latest patch
- DLC was unheard of
- Screenshots were printscreen+paste unless the game had specific functionality for it
- Getting people together for a game was a forum post, and you had no idea who was playing what at a certain time
I was a huge retail packrat (I'm still pissed I threw out my Freespace 2 box on accident), but now I'm a Steam packrat.
Similar services like Impulse and GoG are excellent. D2D is really good (not all that different from GoG if you think about it).
