Journey private beta begins; win a code here
ThatGameCompany reveals details about Journey's invite-only beta, which begins June 28.
As promised last week, thatgamecompany's upcoming online co-operative adventure--Journey--is getting an invite only beta that begins tomorrow (June 28), and runs through July 12.
On that note, Shacknews has five codes for the Journey beta to give away.
Entering the giveaway is simple, you just have to follow a few rules:
- Leave a comment below.
- You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the United States or Canada (excluding Puerto Rico and Quebec).
- Limit 1 entry per person (Only your first comment will be counted).
- The entry period ends at 12:00PM PT tomorrow, 06/28/2011.
- At that time, we will randomly select five (5) winners to each receive one (1) code for the Journey beta, which can be downloaded from the PlayStation Network.
You must have a PSN account (which is free) to claim the title if you win. Winners will be notified via ShackMessage. You must have a Shack account to comment (also free).
Though there will be a few other ways to obtain a coveted Journey beta code, the official beta announcement on the PlayStation Blog indicates that some folks may find an invite waiting in their XMB inbox.
If you were one of the very earliest adopters of Flower, and you are a PS Plus subscriber as well, watch your XMB inbox for your invitation and entry into the beta. Additionally, we've been able to free up a limited number of additional spots for the beta. Please check thatgamecompany's Facebook page, here on the PlayStation Blog, or our media partners and their sites for code give-aways.
Unlike traditional multi-player games, Journey features no matchmaking, no chat functionality, and no online lobbies. Instead, players explore a mysterious world in which they may periodically encounter one other player at a time. Be sure to check out our Journey preview for more details.

Alright, this game looks way awesome. Flower was just a beautiful game, and flow is great also . You guys should probably give a code to this phoke guy, because it's apparently his birthday, and that would be way cool if you won some contest on your birthday . Anyway I guess it doesn't really matter if I get this game, because I'm going to buy it anyway of course but it would be sweet if I could play it before then. Anyway I love it how game producers focus on details and stuff, like how the sand moves when you walk through it in this game, and you kick the sand up a little in front of you. Anyway, I got infamous 2, and I got a code for the uncharted 3 beta. The code didn't even worked, it sucked really bad, but I guess I just need to wait longer to play it.

i played ico and shadow of the colossus when i was younger, and in short they pretty much changed the way i saw creativity and video games as a medium. i had always LOVED video games, but those two made me realize the amount of emotion that can be conveyed through gaming, and i thought i would never play anything like them again. and then flower came. i would go to a friends house and play it for as long as he would let me. at first i thought it was simply because it was a blast to play, but then i started realizing there was more to it, i was feeling it on an emotional and psychological level. the calm, serenity, the pure and un-perverted nature of it had me enchanted, i had become so jaded by the commercial slag that was surrounding me. Flower inspired me, now i have decided to go to school for game development because i have a story I want to tell through a game, its about all the ways that you can hurt someone in a relationship, without meaning to, and how sometimes you're powerless to help them. i dream of someday working for thatgamecompany, i have so much respect for admiration for them, being brave enough and talented enough to create truly unique works of art and emotion in todays money hungry climate. playing journey will help me in my inspiration in so many ways
