Portal 2 sells three million
Portal 2 is quickly on its way towards matching the sales of the original game.
Valve's Gabe Newell casually mentioned sales of Portal 2 during a talk at Games for Change in New York City. Three million is the number he told the audience, as captured by Joystiq.
While Newell didn't offer any detail about retail and Steam sales, that is an incredible accomplishment given the game's April release and full retail price point. By the time of Portal 2's launch, the original game had sold four million retail copies. At this rate, it seems likely that the sequel will match the sales of the original. And with the money made from Portal 2, Valve will finally be able to complete development of Half-Life 2: Episode 3. That's how it works, right?

I wonder if they're counting the PC codes activated on Steam from PS3 copies as a separate "copy" of the game. I doubt it, but I'm curious.
Also, the four million retail copies of Portal 2 - is that for the standalone-in-a-box game or does it include Orange Box copies as well? The linked article doesn't really say. -

I really like Portal 2 and I especially like the new mechanisms they introduced but I feel like Valve has only scratch the surface of whats possible in a game like Portal. For example Non-Euclidean geometry would be pretty blowing. http://youtu.be/DAkKKShGluE Also portal doors: http://youtu.be/rOSThfw7DSA
