Minecraft coming to Xbox 360 with Kinect support
Indie mega-hit Minecraft is coming to Xbox 360 this winter, complete with Kinect support.
Mojang's indie mega-hit Minecraft is getting a console release this winter, more specifically on Xbox 360 with Kinect support, Microsoft has revealed at its E3 2011 press conference.
"I'm thrilled to announce that Minecraft is making its console debut this winter exclusively on Xbox 360 and Kinect," said Phil Spencer of Microsoft Game Studios. And that's about all we know for now.
The press conference is still ongoing so we'll update with more information as it becomes available.

You colonize.
The core of the game is that:
a) the resources you use to build are limited. Some are renewable, others aren't, some need to be mined with special equipment, and some require digging pretty deep into the ground to find.
b) monsters spawn in the dark, so if you don't have some kind of safe, well lit shelter, you're gonna be in a world of trouble when the sun goes down. You can fight, if it comes down to it, but you're generally better off holing off somewhere safe if the option is available, especially when dealing with creepers.
c) aside from simple rule of cool, most of the things you can build serve some kind of practical function in order to aid in points a and b. You can build a base, complete with traps, dig out a network of secret tunnels, craft weapons and armour then hunt monsters for materials that only they drop, built multiple safe camps, add a minecart-based transit system to move between them, farm trees for raw materials, farm wheat for health restoring bread... ect.
d) or you can set the game to peaceful, wherein monsters won't spawn and your health will regenerate automatically, and you can just build stuff, which is also fun in it's own way, albeit with a lot less purpose.-

Yeah, they are... so I guess calling resources "limited" is a little disingenuous, though some things are still quite a bit less abundant than others, and will require more expansion to replenish if not managed carefully.
Though I suppose even that is less of a problem now that you can use beds to reset your spawn point.-

they are not infinite but for all intents and purposes they are close enough. also I think what you meant was some resources are renewable (wood, wheat etc) and some are not. you could sustain yourself with one sappling in theory but once you have mined all the coal in an area you need to move on to find more.
