Microsoft has announced three new features coming to Xbox Live: YouTube, Bing search, and UFC media programming.

YouTube will allow users to, as you would guess, watch YouTube videos from the comfort of your couch. Bing doesn't add a browser to the console, but will categorize and list content available on the Xbox Live--including via partners like Netflix--on the console's dashboard.

The Xbox 360 will also receive Ultimate Fighting Championship media content, UFC boss Dana White revealed during Microsoft's Pre-E3 conference.

Additionally, the Xbox 360 will continue to be updated in order to allow users to search and use features using voice commands via the Kinect peripheral.

I don't understand this, why put these on the xbox when they are already perfectly available to use on any computer/smartphone/tablet. Using a controller to surf the web/youtube/bing sounds like a real pita.

Microsoft's original intention for the Xbox was to have it become a media hub to compete with Sony's boxtop media market. They want all forms of entertainment media to come through their hardware just like Sony is looking to do.

Exactly. The Xbox now or will soon have: Netflix, Hulu, Zune, streaming from media servers, ESPN3, live TV, youtube, etc. All it needs is a browser and the thing is a full-on HTPC.

??? There is a ton of content in the Game Marketplace, Video/Zune Marketplace, Netflix catalog, and now Youtube. I'd imagine that it will search all of that and provide you results that are relevant for the Xbox 360.

Hey, I use the PS3 browser all the time and that thing is like 1000x worse than IE.

Who really wants to web browse on their TV? Sure my PS3 has it but websites just aren't designed for that. I have several other devices here at home that do it better. Or is this all one handed browsing that has people wanting this?

Speaking of Youtube, I hope the trend gets stronger of games having built-in features to upload videos to Youtube. It's so handy in Frozen Synapse.
