Sony Online Entertainment service restored
Servers for DC Universe Online, EverQuest, and more returned over the weekend as SOE recovered from the hack in which user data was stolen.
Servers for DC Universe Online, EverQuest II, Free Realms, and other Sony Online Entertainment games came back online over the weekend as SOE began to recover from the recent horrible hack. The service was taken offline on May 2.
"This phased restoration will include the return of nearly all of our portfolio of online games, the reinstatement of our game forums and websites, and added functionality to require players to reset their passwords," SOE said in an official announcement on Saturday.
SOE's Welcome Back Program will give players 45 days' worth of free game time in every game on your account--a day for each the service was down, plus an extra 30. Free content and bonuses are also available in many games.
24.6 million SOE accounts were compromised in the hack, and 12,700 credit card numbers stolen. SOE has offered all users a year's free service with an identity theft protection program.
Sony's PlayStation Network service for PlayStation 3 and PSP also began to come back online over the weekend, over three weeks after it too was hacked.
