Steamworks confirmed for Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Square Enix confirms Deus Ex: Human Revolution will feature a full suite of Steamworks features, while Eidos Montreal developers discuss UI and control changes made for the PC version.

Confirming a terribly kept secret, Square Enix has announced that the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution will run on the Steamworks platform. Box art for the game was spotted last month on a promotional page for Steamworks-enabled titles on the Steam store.

Along with being available for purchase on Steam, Deus Ex: Human Revolution will feature standard features such as auto-updating, Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud support.

The game will be available digitally in two flavors: standard and the Augmented Edition, featuring "a digital 40-page art book, a "making of" special, trailers, animated storyboard of the CGI trailer, motion graphic novel, soundtrack, and a free download of the Deus Ex Game of the Year Edition."

Both versions are said to be available for pre-order at discounted prices on Steam today; however, neither version is available at the time of publishing. The standard edition is $44.99, while the Augmented Edition is $53.99.

In a video posted on the official Eidos Montreal YouTube channel, producer David Anfossi, game director Jean-Francois Dugas, and art director Jonathan Jacques Belletete took a moment to discuss the PC-specific control and UI changes made to the upcoming title.

Specifically, the trio confirmed remapping of controls, an editable inventory quick key bar familiar to players of the original title, and more.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the PC is in development at Nixxes Software, with Eidos Montreal handling development duties for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. The franchise "reboot" launches on August 23.

This makes me happy, assuming we can buy elsewhere and activate on Steam, and that it's not exclusive to Steam purchases.

Full Steamworks generally implies this, best to wait til closer to release to ensure and then pick your preorder bonus.

Sadly, it'll probably deny NA users if they try to import the much better collector's edition from Europe though. I want that music in WAV/CDA damnit! (...also the extra mission)

why would that be the case? I've bought multiple steam games from the uk and got us games gifted on my german steam account. I would assume this works the other way around as well.

Really now? I guess I was just expecting the worst... and was kind of hoping it might give me an excuse to not import the game for more money than I really want to spend. Damn that audio CD likely packed with awesome.

So since we have a cyberpunk game using Steamworks, now we need a steampunk game using Steamworks as well.

They are definitely setting the bar for what companies should have been doing in the first place for "PC ports".

Yeah they seem to actually care about the platform from what I have been reading so far.

Fuck yes. I am so happy to see more titles using Steamworks as their Xbox Live/PSN layer, especially because I won't have to deal with another account/login. One day, perhaps, EA will get the message.
