We've been contacted by video games, who were jolly insistent that we inform the world about the range of cheap PC games on sale at digital distributors this weekend. Video games informed us that we would pick a selection of this week's discounts, or we'd be spitting teeth through our joypads for weeks. We're not sure what that even means but suspect it's best we follow their instructions. The following is included as proof of our compliance:

Steam

Men of War: Assault Squad

Direct2Drive

You can get 25% off pre-ordering these top titles by applying the promotion code SIZZLE at the checkout: Plus, these regular deals:

Battlefield 3

Green Man Gaming

That seems to be the best price available for that no?

We have to support their faith in the community. Who else out there believe in us enough to release a brand new game on digital distribution with zero DRM?

          unfortunately not.

I do believe that the steam version of witcher 2 will use steamworks. That is, if you buy witcher 2 off steam, it will have steamworks features.

I used to be this way, but since the Steam overlay supports 90% of non-Steam games, I see no reason to have it on Steam other than time tracking and redownloading...

I could be proven wrong, but I think even the great evil EA would be unlikely to pull the game from it's CDN...

I feel the same way. I downloaded and installed Dead Space 2 tonight from EA, saved my receipt, backed up the serial # / installer files to an external archive and put a shortcut to it in Steam; it works great. Only downside imo is I gotta keep track of installing patches if any but that really doesn't bother me.

For most games the launcher takes care of patching anyway!

Is Rage really a Steamworks title? I don't see any confirmation anywhere. Also same goes for Hunted?

It wouldn't surprise me. That's the direction Bethesda seems to be going. Still, it's not confirmed.

I thought they were but, on further investigation, that was poorly-remembered whispers and rumours. Awfully sorry for any inconvenience.

It's not a terrible POS or anything, but it's also nothing special. If you're desperate for ERPG action and have played everything else, I'd say go for it.

Or you could just wait 4 months for TES V: Skyrim to come out. But that won't help you if you don't have anything to play during the summer.

That Magicka (SteamWorks) deal for $5 is a sneaky deal in there. (Bought'd. Was too overloaded with games when it came out.)

One quick correction: the pic of King's Bounty is from The Legend, not Crossworlds (the sequel). That's the Kraken you have to fight before you can offer marriage to the red-headed pirate lady.

Hang on a second - the gimmick with Green Man gaming is that the games can be traded in, right?

So how can they sell Steamworks titles?

      • reply
        May 7, 2011 8:27 AM

        Oh wait I see:

"This game cannot be traded in"

I think this is how non-Steam DD companies will survive in the future - just run deals on Steamworks games. Steam becomes the de-facto way to run games on the PC, companies like Green Man and Impulse sell Steam games and compete on price and sales. Everyone wins.
