It appears that Crono and his pals are headed to the Virtual Console, after all. According to an ESRB listing spotted by Siliconera, the classic SNES role-playing title Chrono Trigger is being prepped for the Nintendo Wii.

While the listing doesn't explicitly state the game will arrive on Nintendo's classic console game channel, all signs point to this being the case. Chrono Trigger has already been confirmed for the Japanese and European Virtual Console storefronts; as well as recently being listed by the ESRB for the PS3 and PSP.

Chrono Trigger was originally released in 1995 by Square for the Super Nintendo. Widely considered one of the greatest games of all time, Chrono Trigger has already seen re-releases on the PSone and Nintendo DS.

This was one of those games that I intially missed then when I got a hold of a copy, it was one of those that you realize even in the opening sequence that you had something special in your hands. Probably one of my favorite games of all time.

i know right, they need to give us something to get excited about. why not introduce this game to a new generation, with some updated graphics, refined battle system, redone soundtrack, maybe add some voices... of course with the option to play the classic version -- like they did with monkey island for ios.

because the DS port wasn't a huge success, so they're likely using this to test waters as is

also, it either doesn't need to be messed with, or it needs to have crazy overboard painted artwork graphics

Yeah, I think I recall someone from SE pretty much stating flat out that the success (or lack) of the DS version would determine whether they ever touch the IP again.

Which is absurd, given the lack of media for it. Plenty of old fans didn't know about it or don't play on portables, and there was no media to back it up for newcomers - the very people who are going to need something to understand why they should be interested in a game that looks 15 years old.

thats ridiculous since a straight engine update would be a better game than the crap theyve been releasing lately

How much do VC games cost?

And does anyone here have experience in running homebrew on their Wii?
