Battle: Los Angeles game coming from Konami

You know that mediocre-looking sci-fi flick that seems a lot like that other mediocre sci-fi flick? They're making a game out of it!

You know that upcoming sci-fi flick that seems a whole lot like that other sci-fi flick? They're making a game out of it!

Battle: Los Angeles is being developed by Saber Interactive and published by Konami, and is set to launch on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and Steam in April. Players take the role of Corporal Lee Imlay (who was just off-camera during the movie, we're sure) to fight aliens as they invade America's smoggiest burg.

The press release makes the game sound like a fairly standard first-person shooter, but promises the Havok Destruction Module to let players wreck buildings, vehicles, and overpasses. Saber has some FPS experience under its belt with Will Rock and TimeShift.

Those with long memories may recall that Resistance 3 was first revealed in a prop billboard for the movie set of -- you guessed it -- Battle: Los Angeles. So the video game thing has kind of come full circle.

Yeah, but I'm hoping this sci-fi flick is actually good, as opposed to that "other" sci-fi flick that sucked dirty hobo-balls.

I see you have since backed off on the mediocrity.

I like the actors in the movie, I have high hopes for it. The game though, not so much.

Some of the scenes in the trailer give me a kind of District 9 vibe. That's a good thing. But yeah, I'm hoping for a good solid action blow 'em up movie. Hollywood's gotten too much in love with CG effects vs making a good movie. There's a reason some of the classic action movies stand the test of time (Die Hard comes to mind, using mostly physical effects) vs a lot of modern crap that we've already forgotten about.

The best thing about this movie so far is the music in the trailer.
