Tropico 4 delayed until August

El Presidente commands you to ignore the quiet mention that Tropico 4 has been delayed and instead focus on the new trailer.

When publisher Kalypso announced an Xbox 360 edition of Haemimont's Tropico 4 in February, the game was due to arrive in the second quarter of 2011. Evidently, El Presidente was making campaign pledges he could not keep, as it's now expected to hit PC and 360 in August.

While El Presidente struggles with his timing, he clearly still cares for us, as we have a new teaser trailer to enjoy. The trailer gives a quick overview of the city-building strategy game's new features, from "interactive" natural disasters to new global superpowers.

You can play it in sandbox mode. There's no shame in it.

You should consider giving its expansion Absolute Power a whirl, it's often on sale.

Was that the one where you have to deal with the nationalists and the immigrants? Because that's one of the few I can't pass. :-( Absolute Power is a blast though! The scenarios are much more involved and crazy!

That one is annoying, but you just need to get lots of entertainment, medical, and religious buildings. Then institute all the edicts the people like, such as food for the people, and you should be good to go.

All I want is to be able to modify the landscape, even if just a little bit. Please! The roads beg of you!

I often use apartment blocks for geoshaping. Can work like a "flatten" button.

Yeah, but sometimes the ground goes the wrong direction, and then the road that connects gets it to become weirder, and you can't make a cross road... and bah!

I want this and a better transportation system than just those huge garages. I'd like to see some kind of public transit like a bus or rail system instituted.

Clearly they're having to scramble to get the desert textures in place for the Libya scenario.

Or maybe it's just support for the Charlie Sheen on Spring Break disaster DLC.

      Winning!

If it keeps the game-killing bugs from being in the initial release this is all good.

What I'd really like to see is more late-game stuff to do. Tropico 3 is great, but once you've got your economy up and running and you're pumping out 50-100K on every export, there isn't much left to do. Yeah, you can build better housing, or you can provide more entertainment, but all of the challenge is gone at that point. I'm hoping they add more depth (and I'm honestly not sure how) to that part of the game.

I agree... maybe that's when the super powers should start trying to pressure/strong arm your country one way or the other if you haven't already, or maybe even face assault if you've linked with one side. Maybe rebel forces from another island?

Real despots have this problem too. That's when they start getting distracted by hookers and blow.
