Sony quietly unveiled a new price drop on its PSP Go today, down to an MSRP of $149.99 from its previous price of $199.99. The new price slipped onto the official site, without an announcement to accompany it. Oddly, retailers don't seem to have gotten the memo yet, as most are still listing the old price.

This follows on the heels of a recent price drop on the standard PSP model to $129.99. That was a decrease of $40, so it makes sense that the PSP Go dropped $50 to match. Both seem to be preparing for the imminent launch of the Nintendo 3DS, and the eventual release of Sony's NGP.

I would never touch this, but at a price of $130 USD, I'm considering the original.

To bad for you. The Go is the better of the two now that they are on more even footing. The UMD drive is a non-issue now.

Not all games are getting released to PSN and the back catalog will likely never be released. The 3000 or better yet the 2000 is still the way to go if you want to play older PSP games.

the flip side of the argument is that games you buy on PSN for a PSP Go (or any PSP) are forward-compatible with the NGP, unlike UMD games which are a dead end

Or you could buy the 2000/3000, buy games that are on PSN, and yet still have the ability to play games off of UMD. Win-win!

PSP Go finally got hacked just like the regular model so no umd drive is not really a downer. Go buy the UMD and download a backup and play it off internal memory.

Hooray to the psp scene for fixing something that sony promised and didn't deliver.

Also I believe the PSP Go is the only model that supports pausing of PS1 classic games. (Kinda like a save state)

Lots of good plugins for the current hacks too.
Someone created a plugin that let's you play games in 3D with 3D glasses. (lol)
Theres a plugin that allows more than one game to be paused. Usually if you pause one game and try to pause another the previous pause state is deleted.

The PSPGo hurts my hands like everyone says the DualShock hurts there's.

Too small. Yea, yea, that's what she said, I know

Yeah when I tried it in a Best Buy my hands immediately cramped up and the buttons felt really cheap.

I love the PSP3000, definitely looking forward to the NGP. The price drop actually made me research it again...but it's just too uncomfortable.

What do you mean support is terrible? 2010 psp lineup was pretty much best of all consoles.

        Y's
        Metal Gear
        Phantasy Star
        Persona
        God of War
        Monster Hunter
and a bizillion other games i'm forgetting.

The Kingdom Hearts game last year was also fantastic.

And this year, we've gotten several solid titles too, including Tactics Ogre which is still sucking most of my game time, and Parasite Eve 3, Dissidia 2 and FF4 Complete coming in the next month and a half or so.

Sony's support has been iffy, but I still love my Go. The form factor is a lot more practical, the pause feature is VERY handy, and the d-pad is much, much better than the standard. Of course, I still have my 1000 for UMD's - if I didn't have that, I'd probably go with the 3000, or track down a 2000 to avoid the "scanline" issue.

Can you put CFW on a Go?

      • reply
        March 3, 2011 1:13 PM

No, you use what is called "LFW" or light firmware. It stays active until you do a full power down or reboot.

If you try to install CFW on a Go, you'll brick it.

This is what I do now to play my old UMD games and I feel like it works really well. If pressing a button is too much for you, you can just put your go into sleep mode and the firmware will stay enabled

I honestly love mine, but I'm playing lots of games through questionable means. Works great when you can just "not-download" anything, like Luminies which isnt even available on the store. I actually own most of the games on there, but I lost my PSP, and went with the go so i could just download everything I already bought....win win.

Though not directly to the tv, you can do something similar with remotejoylite already. Plug it in to the computer, play it with a controller on whatever monitor/tv is hooked into it.

Requires more screwing around by far, but I've always liked remotejoylite more than the tv-out.

I would have bought the PSP Go at release if it was $150, but now I just play games on my phone and I'm waiting for the NGP.

For $150 I am seriously considering this, but mostly just to play PS1 Classics.
