E3 2018: Gears Pop and Gears Tactics Offer New Ways to Experience Flagship Shooter Series

You thought it was Gears of War 5, but it was Gears Pop! And Gears Tactics

During today's Microsoft E3 2018 briefing, The Coalition announced two new games in the Gears universe: Gears Pop and Gears Tactics. Yes, we're still getting Gears of War 5, but we'll also be seeing these two new gems in addition to the newest installment of one of Microsoft's most popular franchises. Gears Pop, for example, is being created with Funko Pop Vinyl figures in mind, and it's headed to iOS and Android in 2019. That's about all we heard about it, unfortunately.

But then there's Gears Tactics, which goes in a completely different direction all its own.

The cartoony Gears Pop has plenty to draw from with the adorable Funko Pop! Vinyl figures, of which there are dozens of different varieties, so it should be interesting to see what's done with the figures and the familiar faces from the Gears of War series.

Gears Tactics will feature  “turn-based tactics games combining signature fast-paced brutal action and character-driven storytelling with customizable squads, upgradable weapons, and, of course, massive boss battles,” Microsoft said. Interestingly enough, it'll be the first Gears title in the series to have been designed specifically with PC players in mind as well.

We'll bring you more information on both titles as new details emerge, but for right now that's about all we've got on them. They look like fun little diversions at least, don't they?
