Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Introduces Hero-Shooter-Style Specialists For PvP
The live reveal of Black Ops 4 started off with multiplayer and the new features on the way.
Treyarch is next up on deck for Activision's Call of Duty franchise, this time bringing the fourth in the Black Ops series of games. Today, the devs hosted a reveal event for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and we've got the highlights broken down for you here.
The first gameplay footage for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 included some intense gunplay, a plethora of new tools that players will use, and confirmation that this is the next "boots on the ground" entry in the CoD series. No wall jumping and no jump
The specialists introduced in the Black Ops 4 trailer seem to tap into the appeal of hero shooters like Overwatch and Rainbow Six: Siege, offering unique gameplay experiences based on the specialist chosen. The tactical pacing will lean more toward Siege, but the game seems to have some pretty interesting characters. There's a medic, a character with a dog, a specialist with focused on recon, and more. The recon specialist is additionally beneficial because Black Ops 4 introduces a fog-of-war mechanic, affecting player awareness.
There are solo missions that will allow players to explore the identities of each specialist and master their unique talents. A rumor surfaced last month that Black Ops 4 would ditch the traditional single-player campaign and double-down on the various multiplayer modes like Zombies and PvP. It's not known yet if these solo specialist missions will be the replacement for a full single-player campaign, but we'll update once we have a better understanding.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be releasing on Xbox One, PS4, and PC this October 12.
