Square Enix Teases a Major Tomb Raider Reveal in 2018
Lara Croft will be back to getting tortured and shot on your screen sooner than you think.
The Tomb Raider franchise is one of the supporting pillars of the video game industry. For over 20 years, Lara Croft has been hanging from ledges and discovering forgotten treasures. After almost a decade of irrelevance, Lara Croft returned with a vengeance in 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot. Fans and newcomers found the experience second to none and a well-received follow up arrived in late 2015. Since then, the future of the Tomb Raider series has been up in the air. Publisher Square Enix made a major announcement today that will leave Lara Croft fans giddy with excitement.
The official Tomb Raider Twitter account posted a message from Square Enix this morning to announce that a new Tomb Raider game was coming. The message teases a major event for the series in 2018 and that the time between when the new game is revealed and when players can get their hands on it will be much shorter than with the previous games.
Lastly, Square Enix ends the message by declaring that this new entry into the series will be Lara Croft’s defining adventure. While this could simply be the pre-release hype that all games from major publishers push, it is possible that the company believes that have the next big thing ready to push out to a hungry fanbase. Way back in 2015, Square implied that 2013’s Tomb Raider was the start of a trilogy, so maybe this new game will be the bookend for the modern Lara Croft story. Keep your fingers crossed for the 2018 announcement!
