Hearthstone's next expansion is ready to explore the domain of the Kobolds.

Hearthstone players will soon get their chance to explore the depths of the Kobolds' domain with the upcoming Kobolds & Catacombs expansion. And as it turns out, the expansion isn't much farther away. This morning, Blizzard announced that the 135-card expansion is set to release on December 7.

Anyone who logs into Hearthstone after the expansion goes live will be treated to three Kobolds & Catacombs card packs for free. They'll also get one of the game's new Legendary Weapons as a free drop. And to help celebrate the arrival of the game's new Dungeon Run (which we tried at BlizzCon), three quests will task players with attempting the new adventure and will all award free card packs. That is, of course, if there's room in your daily quest log, so make sure to complete those daily quests before the expansion goes live.

The Hearthstone website has more information on the Kobolds & Catacombs rollout. Meanwhile, Shacknews is also preparing for the expansion's arrival. We're still analyzing all 135 new cards, as well as the Legendary Weapons, every day, so be sure to catch up on all of our Kobolds & Catacombs coverage.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Are you going to grind it for cards or just call it a day?

The only money I've ever spent on Hearthstone is on single player expansions. Since they haven't done one of those in a while I just keep stashing all my gold and just buy a bunch of packs on launch.

I've never ranked higher than 18 but I still have fun.

I'm just gonna use gold this time. I bought the last 2 but realized I just dont want to buy cards forever and if that means I'm trying to hit 20 instead of 15, whatever. haha. Its still the same game.

How much dust and golden copies of cards do you have? It probably looks like the Crown Jewels in your collection.

I’m preordering. I’ve been enjoying the game more than ever since getting legend every month.

That said I am kinda concerned about how far the meta has shifted to control. Traditionally hearthstone has had an aggro focus and that’s healthy because it gives newer players a chance and it stops decks from becoming obscenely greedy. I got legend this month playing big Druid. It’s the most expensive deck I’ve ever played. It’s pretty ridiculous that that is a tier 1 deck. Another example would be looking at tempo rogue which has gotten greedier over time. The deck didn’t use to run cairne and lich king. It does now because it’s harder to end game early.

And even the aggro decks feel pretty expensive, compared to some of the cheap tier one decks in the past.

I preordered. Don’t have as much time as I’d like to grind gold but still put plenty of hours in. Some interesting things being added this expansion
