Xbox One and PS4 Bow To Nintendo Switch Sales Headed Into Holidays
Nintendo consoles accounted for two-thirds of hardware sales in September.
The Nintendo Switch, which received a pretty significant system update yesterday, continues to defy the gloom and doom predictions of many with strong software and hardware sales. According to NPDs, the hybrid console can add another month to its streak of victories as it takes the crown for September and sets itself up for strong holiday performance going into October.
Venturebeat reports that the Nintendo Switch, SNES Classic, and 3DS ran wild via the data provided by The NPD Group, accounting for two-thirds of gaming hardware sales for the month. The Switch specifically topped the NPD charts for the fifth month straight and has now surpassed 2 million sold in the US.
Nintendo is headed toward a pretty incredible milestone when it comes to software sales, and this month Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle led the charge for them as the 7th best selling for the month. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also placed 10th and 11th respectively.
The train for Nintendo shouldn't be letting up anytime soon with high-profile games like DOOM and Rockstar's L.A. Noire getting ported to the platform. Super Mario Odyssey will be out front for new original releases and the game and console bundles with it should power the Switch right through the Holiday season with a comfortable lead over the competition. Hope you snatch up some Nintendo stock when we told you to.
