DontNod Entertainment's Vampyr RPG Slips Into 2018
A crafty banana peel was spotted on the scene.
DontNod Entertainment doesn’t yet have a lot of titles to its name, having thus far completed development on only Remember Me and Life is Strange, but that limited output has still enabled the studio to earn a reputation for quality. Its next project is the ambitious Vampyr, which was scheduled to debut in late 2017. Now that game won’t arrive until 2018.
“Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision,” said Oskar Guilbert, CEO of DontNod Entertainment. “However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of development.”
Vampyr has been in development for quite some time, with its first trailer showing up online more than a year ago. The game stars Dr. Jonathan Reid, a man who is coming to terms with the fact he is a vampire. He’ll have to make some tough choices to save the day while sating his bloodlust and fighting off those who are even worse than he is.
Though the delay is disappointing, the rest of the year is packed with excellent software that might well have overshadowed Vampyr. Besides, there are generally silver linings when ambitious games miss their projected release dates, if you know where to look for them.
“This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr's scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world,” added Guilbert. “We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience… especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it.”
Vampyr is now due to arrive in Spring of 2018, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Are you looking forward to adding it to your collection at that time?
