Sony Eyes Wider Audience With New $399 PS VR Bundle

2

The PlayStation VR was a solid step toward massive accessibility after the launch of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and Sony has announced a lower priced PS VR bundle that includes the PlayStation Camera.

Another major step toward VR access for mass consumers was taken when Microsoft announced their affordable and easy to use headsets that will launch in October. Not to be completely outdone, the PS VR and PS Camera can now be had for $399 USD / $499 CAD together. Previously the PS VR alone was that price and there was an extra charge if you didn’t already have the PS Camera in your collection. The PlayStation VR Worlds bundle, which includes the aforementioned bundle plus the PlayStation Worlds collection of VR games, has also undergone a price drop down to $449 USD / $579 CAD.

This year has had quite a share of significant price changes when it comes to virtual reality hardware. Oculus started things off by dropping prices for the Rift and Touch during the summer. More recently, HTC slashed prices permanently for the Vive by $200 which brought it down to $599. By year’s end, consumers will have a diverse collection of options at much more appealing prices as VR adoption grows.

The PS VR has had its share of solid virtual reality games but one of its most intriguing is the upcoming Moss. The charming lead mouse could serve as an endearing mascot in a time where standing out in the VR market will be a bit more difficult, especially with the new Microsoft headsets having Halo and Minecraft as part of their stable of content.
