Nintendo Announces Nindies Showcase Presentation
More indie games are coming to the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo plans to show them off in an upcoming stream.
Nintendo announced this morning that it has scheduled another Switch-related presentation, which you’ll be able to view live in a couple of days. The focus of that presentation will be indie titles.
In a display of atypical word economy, Nintendo of America had only the following to say:
“A new Nindies Showcase, highlighting multiple indie games coming to Nintendo Switch, is coming on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. PT. Watch the video live by visiting live.nintendo.com.”
Numerous indie games have launched each month since the console’s arrival this March, and we reported on three new eShop additions just last week. That suggests Nintendo wants to highlight the impending arrivals for some reason, most likely because they’re especially noteworthy.
Although Nintendo and its development partners have numerous AAA releases on the way, including Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle this this week (see the video embedded above for an extended look at that game in action), the market has evolved to a point where strong support from indies can make or break a console’s fortunes as players seek out entertainment to fill the time between tentpole releases. Nintendo seems to be showing stronger commitment to the indie development scene this time around than it did with the underperforming Wii U, which may not necessarily signify a strategic change but is certainly good news for consumers.
What do you think about the system’s indie lineup so far? Are there any major titles available on PC or other consoles that you would like to see announced for Nintendo Switch, possibly in the Nindies Showcase this Wednesday?
