Discord has made an official statement on the events in Charlottesville, shut down an alt-right server, and closed a number of accounts related to those events and hate-groups.

Despite the obvious transgressions seen this past weekend, an immediate response to Discord’s tweet took the “But what about these other groups” approach and targeted far leftists, atifa, and Black Lives Matter servers. The Discord Twitter account responded “We take action against any servers that are found to be violating our Guidelines and ToS, esp for inciting violence against people......If you have any info on people violating our Guidelines/ToS, please report them to abuse@discordapp.com.” It's likely this only the beginning of companies speaking or acting in response to these events.

Reported by USA Today, domain registrar and website hosting company GoDaddy severed ties with Neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer after a white supremacist rally turned deadly in Charlottesville, Virginia. A man that participated in the rally ran down counter protesters in his car, resulting in the death of counter-protester Heather Heyer. The Daily Stormer posted an article shaming and attacking Heyer, essentially celebrating her death, and GoDaddy quickly discontinued service.

We at Shacknews offer our condolences to Heather Heyer’s family, the families of the H. Jay Cullen and Berke M.M. Bates who passed after a helicopter crash that happened while monitoring the events and send our best wishes out to anyone harmed during the events in Charlottesville.
