Powered-Up Monopoly Gamer Takes On a Mario Theme
Coins instead of cash, character powers, and special dice add a new layer of strategy and fun to the popular game.
Hasbro has always catered to videogamers with different Monopoly themes, from Assassin's Creed to Final Fantasy VII to Fallout. But now it has not only given us a Mario-themed game, it has upped the ante with some special Mario themed rules and items.
Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong and Yoshi are your tokens. Instead of cash, players use coins to buy Mario-styled properties. So far, your run-of-the-mill Monopoly game. But the twist comes with the "super-star" ability that each token has: Mario can roll the die and get that many coins from the bank. Peach grabs rent money on all her properties at once. Donkey Kong can take three coins from each player, and Yoshi can collect all the coins on the board.
If that isn't wild enough for you, there are two separate types of dice, one standard and one power up. And then there are boss cards. That's where things get truly crazy. Watch the video below for all the details.
Monopoly Gamer comes out in August for $24.99. There will also be booster packs for $2.99 that will include a new token and abilities.
