The talent loss at struggling social game company Zynga continues as the company's chief game designer Brian Reynolds, who led the design for Frontierville, has resigned and is looking to get back into the nitty gritty of game design.
Zynga CEO Mark Pincus has confirmed yesterday's layoffs, a 5% reduction in staff and the closure of the Boston studio. Closures are also being proposed to its Japan and UK studios.
Zynga has reportedly laid off approximately 100 employees from its Austin studio, with similar downsizing possible for its Chicago and Boston offices.
Zynga denies allegations made by EA, saying the company has no exclusive claim to the "life simulation" genre. In a prepared statement to Shacknews, Zynga also claims that EA is guilty of "anticompetitive and unlawful business practices," for which the company has filed a counterclaim.
Richard Garriott's first social game, Ultimate Collector, will be published by Zynga on Facebook.
