Steam Linux closed beta launching in October

If you're waiting for the Year of the Linux Desktop to begin, take a deep breath and cross your fingers. Valve said yesterday that "Things have been going well" for its Steam Linux client, so it plans to launch an internal beta next week then an invite-only external beta for 1,000 Linuxnauts in October.

Steam Workshop coming to Left 4 Dead 2

Valve has announced Steam Workshop tools coming to Left 4 Dead 2, including easy mod support, expanded scripting tools, and some mysterious method of folding user content into the game proper.

Valve's first hardware to hit beta next year

Valve has been relatively mum about the hardware it is working on. We know it has been tinkering with wearable computers and virtual reality, and it is bringing gaming to the living room with its Big Picture Mode. And they have stressed that they aren't happy with the innovation of mouse and keyboard technology lately. Whatever it is, Valve said that the first beta for their super-secret projects will be coming next year.
