Steam Family Options launches out of beta

As Valve winds up for the first wave of Steam Machines to hit living rooms this month, it's making sure the software is in shape too. One important feature for a more console-y system is a way to parents to keep innocent young eyes away from horrid adult content, so they can play Peggle but not, say, Saw. No child should suffer that. After a spot of public testing, Valve this week brought Steam's Family Options into the main client.

Dota 2 opens to the public

Dota 2 is now open for all without the sign-up and queue process that Valve has been using to control player numbers.

Dota 2 patch adds Legion Commander and 'Wraith Night' survival mode

Dota 2's Christmas update arrives today, and oh! what an update it is. Along with bringing over a new hero from the original DotA, the long-awaited Legion Commander, it adds a wave survival mode which pits heroes against hordes of creeps, trying to defend Skeleton King so he can be reborn as the Wraith King. And there shall be... such... prizes.
