When the first crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals failed to rouse interest, developer Precursor Games scrapped it and launched a second two months later. After that also failed, well, Precursor is finally giving up on the spiritual sequel to Eternal Darkness. Or, in its words, putting the game "on hold" and disbanding until "when and if the time is right."

Precursor Games has relaunched its crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals, a "spiritual successor" to GameCube survival horror Eternal Darkness made by some of the folks behind the original at Silicon Knights. Which proved to be a bit of a problem, as many don't have much confidence in them anymore. Still, it's trying again, this time with a less ambitious goal of $750,000.

Precursor Games has decided to suspend its Kickstarter campaign and cancel its own Web site's crowd-funding, with plans to relaunch the Kickstarter (only) in a few weeks.

Precursor Games CEO Paul Caporicci says they "understand the skepticism" over its new studio's ties to Silicon Knights, but want the opportunity to show people that it's "a wholly different company."
