Warlock 2: The Exiled bringing more turn-based strategy to PC

"War. A wise man said it never changes," a gravely voice declares. "But he's dead. Eaten by a dragon in war." It's not easy to make a fun announcement trailer for a hexy turn-based strategy game, but publisher Paradox certainly has a fair crack at it with Warlock 2: The Exiled.

Europa Universalis IV demo out; Crusader Kings save converter priced

Ahead of its launch next Tuesday, Paradox has a released a demo for historical strat-o-rama Europa Universalis IV. In slightly less pleasant news, though, it's announced that the Crusader Kings II save game converter offered as a pre-order bonus will otherwise cost a whopping $10. I'm normally hesitant to recommend pre-ordering but, well, if you like your history hard and heavy, it may save you quite a few dollars here.

War of the Vikings announced for PC

Hacking men to pieces is fun and all, we know, but who really cares about the House of Lancaster and the House of York? People who live in Northern England, and no one else. So War of the Roses developer Fatshark is using more interesting murderers for its freshly-announced follow-up to the multiplayer medieval murderama, War of the Vikings.

Europa Universalis IV can import Crusader Kings II saves

We can get so attached to the characters and worlds we create in video games, missing them even when we're done with the game itself. How thoroughly splendid, then, that Paradox has created a tool to convert Crusader Kings II saves into worlds playable in the upcoming Europa Universalis IV.

Magicka: Wizard Wars gameplay trailer reveals WvW violence

March's announcement of the PvP-only Magicka: Wizard Wars was a funny one, as though we did all zap our wizard chums with friendly fire for kicks in Magicka, half the fun was the plausible deniability of having monsters to kill. Still, it's looking pretty in the first gameplay trailer, released today to announce alpha signups are now open.

Knights of Pen & Paper meta-roleplaying on PC June 18

Who has the time to play games anymore? No, we're growed-ups, spending our personal time with our roller skates and bills. So bring on the June 18 launch of "meta RPG" Knights of Pen & Paper, confirmed today by publisher Paradox, where a group of roleplayers can play a tabletop RPG for us, and all we have to do is tell them what to do. That's saving time! I think.

Europa Universalis 4 coming August 13

Europa Universalis 4 is coming on August 13, Paradox announced today. Pre-orders have opened, with your choice of the regular edition ($40) or Digital Extreme Edition ($45).

Leviathan: Warships jazzy trailer is smooth sailing

There are no flippy-floppies and no T-Pain, but the debut trailer for Paradox Interactive's upcoming turn-based strategy game, Leviathan: Warships, does feature a whole lot of smooth jazz. The music and narrator is more akin to something you'd hear on "The Love Boat," but Warships is more about blowing boats out of the water than lounging by the deck.

Meta-RPG Knights of Pen & Paper coming to PC

Yo dawg, I heard you like RPGs, so I put an RPG in your RPG so you can roleplay as you roleplay. People tell me I'm "funny". But hey, look, Paradox Interactive is bringing Behold Studios's "meta-RPG" Knights of Pen & Paper to PC in a shiny +1 Edition, so people sitting at desks can roleplay people sitting at tables roleplaying fantasy heroes off on adventures.

Magicka: Wizard Wars announced as PvP-only

You may not have guessed it, from how many Arcane Novas and Steam Lightning Storms were cast in the direction of other players, but wacky action-RPG Magicka was originally a co-op game. PvP arenas were added free DLC to formalise the wizard-on-wizard violence, and the next game goes even further. Announced today by publisher Paradox, Magicka: Wizard Wars is a purely PvP affair, boasting 4v4 magic man action.
