New releases were very few in July and software sales showed, with The Last of Us leading July. Meanwhile, the PS4 reigned supreme once again in the console wars.
Sony is claiming victory over Microsoft in the latest month of console wars.
PlayStation 4 beat Xbox One for the fifth consecutive month, but next month the $400 XBO goes into effect. In the meantime, new game launches filled several spots on the sales charts, including the top four.
The NPD charts show little change over last month, but NPD says that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are cumulatively outperforming their predecessors.
The March NPD numbers are in and the PlayStation 4 continues to reign atop the hardware charts, while Titanfall reigns supreme in the world of software sales.
The winner of February's edition of the new console wars depends on how you look at it. According to the NPD Group, PS4 sold more hardware units, while Xbox One made more money in sales (due to its higher price), giving both Sony and Microsoft a case to claim victory. Meanwhile, Square Enix crashes onto the Top 10 software sales with Thief, Lightning Returns, and Bravely Default, but can't topple Call of Duty.
January's NPD shows PS4 and Xbox One switching places in their great and terrible dance of hardware sales, but both managed to edge out 3DS this time.

The November NPDs mark the first head-to-head between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and which sold more depends on how you look at the numbers.
The October 2013 NPD (the last before PS4 and Xbox One release) is an entirely new list of titles, with one lone exception. Grand Theft Auto 5 remains at the top of the list, fending off strong pushes from Pokemon X & Y and Battlefield 4.
