The debut trailer for Square Enix's upcoming Thief reboot has leaked onto the internet. While the publisher will undoubtedly attempt to squash this leak, you can watch said video (for now).

Although the next Xbox will ship with an upgraded Kinect, you'll still use a controller with buttons to operate the system. As with PS4, it appears the move to the next generation means you'll have to pick up new controllers.

Nvidia will be completely locked out of the market come next-gen, with Sony's PlayStation 4 confirmed to be using AMD chips, and the next Xbox largely rumored to do the same. So, what happened? How did Nvidia lose such a big market to its rival?

"We wanted to keep the main DNA of who Garrett was; we didn't want to change that much because it was working already," game director Nicolas Cantin said. But, "we wanted to bring in more of the modern audience of the console market."

Game development costs will increase even further for the next generation of consoles, or will amongst developers who want to use all the extra horsepower to push polygons aplenty and tremendous textures. Given that so-called "AAA development" is already pretty dang expensive and risky, this may prove troublesome. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has recently proposed one solution: releasing "pilot episodes" of games to test the waters before plunging fully into development.

You and I know pirates to be cheery drunkards, perhaps made of plasticine, who plunder cursed booty and battle sea monsters. Yet, Ubisoft Montreal claims, this is all fiction. The developer has said it is "giving pirates the HBO, reality treatment" in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, suggesting that perhaps piracy wasn't all hook hands and perching parrots.

Microsoft's Kinect may have started its life on the Xbox 360, but the company has ambitions to miniaturize it and improve it until it can function in TVs, laptops, and even tablets.

Thief 4, now simply renamed "Thief," is coming to next-gen platforms and PC sometime in 2014.
