Sony Online's next game 'dedicated' to Star Wars Galaxies

While Sony Online Entertainment's MMOs are free-to-play, the company offers subscriptions, entitling players to a number of benefits. Starting April, the company plans on doing away with game subscriptions, giving all paid members access to premium content across all of their games.
Online games eventually come to an end. For a number of Sony Online Entertainment's games, that time is sooner than later. Four games will be "sunset," so that the company can "refocus our resources on other areas in the best interest of our company and player community."
RuneScape developer Jagex has announced a new "Pay-through-Play" model for the long-running MMO, letting players buy "Bonds" that can be traded and spent on premium content.
"For Blizzard it makes sense [to go free-to-play] at some point," lead designer Tom Chilton said.
The team behind Transformers Universe has been hit with layoffs. Jagex says it won't "adversely impact" the game, but a source claims that hitting the release target is putting pressure on the company.
Square Enix's venerable Dragon Quest franchise is finally coming to PC. Dragon Quest X, originally announced for Wii and Wii U, will also be coming to Windows computers later this year--in Japan, at least.
"If we published to Xbox One right now, it would essentially be an Xbox only community," director Naoki Yoshida explained. "An MMO is built on its community, and if it's weak, then what is the point?"
