Valve's second "living room" announcement came today, taking the wraps off of its "Steam Machines" initiative. It will be sending out 300 prototypes to users this year, in preparation for a formal launch in 2014.
Valve has revealed the first of its big three Steam-related living room announcements of the week: a custom Linux operating system intended for living room PCs with big screens, named SteamOS. It'll even support streaming Windows and Mac games from your gaming PC. Valve's working on new multimedia and family features for Steam too.
Former Telltale developers Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman, Mark of the Ninja lead designer Nels Anderson, and ex-Studio Ghibli artist Olly Moss have joined forces to create a new studio called Campo Santo. And yes, there's already one game in the works.
The latest Humble Indie Bundle was already a remarkable bargain, including the likes of Fez, FTL, Trine 2, and Mark of the Ninja, but apparently it could do better. Another four games have been bunged into the pay-what-you-want bundle, namely Bastion, Limbo, A Virus Named Tom, and Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken. You may have picked them up cheap in bundles or sales before but good grief, can anyone complain about this?
The Fullbright Company co-founder Steve Gaynor took some time out of his busy schedule to look back at Gone Home and reflect on its development, narrative, Chris Remo's composition, and whether he'll work with the Oculus Rift.
"Next week we're going to be rolling out more information about how we get there and what are the hardware opportunities we see for bringing Linux into the living room," Gabe Newell said.
