Oddworld remake New 'n' Tasty due spring 2014

We haven't heard from Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty in a while, so let's have a look in. Ooh, hark at that, the remake of Abe's Oddysee has only gone and got a release window of spring 2014. Oooh, and a new trailer is out, introducing the story that launched a series, now in shiny HD-o-vision.

Total War: Rome II invading Linux and living rooms

Total War is one of the PC series which seemed destined to stay on PC with mice and keyboards, too big and complex to make work well on controllers. Not any longer. Developer The Creative Assembly has been won over by Valve's Steam Controller, enough to bring Total War: Rome II to SteamOS and, by extension, all of Linux.

Broken Age preview: head in the clouds

Double Fine brought Broken Age out to Los Angeles on Tuesday and Shacknews took a few minutes to go hands-on with the upcoming adventure game and check out the dialogue and inventory systems in action.

Metro: Last Light now out on Linux

Decades of relentless overenthusiasm from Linux fans about this year really being "the year of the Linux desktop" means I struggle to even joke about that by now, but Valve bringing Steam to Linux certainly has spurred interest in the operating system. Metro: Last Light is now on Linux too, and developer 4A Games vows it'll work just fine with SteamOS and the Steam controller too.

Broken Sword 5 slithers out December 4, now episodic

Nostalgia-plying games crowdfunded as the gold rush began are gathering pace, breaching from industry veterans' nebulous realm of "Wouldn't it be cool if?" into our world, our lives, our homes. To make good on its plan to release Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse this year, Revolution Software has split the adventure game into two parts. The first will arrive December 4, the developer announced today, followed by the second in January 2014.
