May NPD: New game launches rule the roost

PlayStation 4 beat Xbox One for the fifth consecutive month, but next month the $400 XBO goes into effect. In the meantime, new game launches filled several spots on the sales charts, including the top four.

Xbox One hits 5 million shipped

Microsoft has been falling behind Sony in the latest console war. And in spite of the recent launch of Titanfall, the gap is only widening.

February NPD: PS4 and Xbox One are neck-and-neck

The winner of February's edition of the new console wars depends on how you look at it. According to the NPD Group, PS4 sold more hardware units, while Xbox One made more money in sales (due to its higher price), giving both Sony and Microsoft a case to claim victory. Meanwhile, Square Enix crashes onto the Top 10 software sales with Thief, Lightning Returns, and Bravely Default, but can't topple Call of Duty.

PlayStation 4 has sold over 4.2 million consoles

When Microsoft boasted yesterday that it sold over 3 million Xbox Ones in 2013, it seemed inevitable that Sony would quickly follow with yelling about its own success. During its CES 2014 keynote today, Sony declared that it had sold-through over 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles as of December 28.
