Firefall launches open beta on July 9

Free-to-play jetpacking MMOFPS Firefall will enter open beta on July 9, developer Red 5 Studios announced today. It'll essentially be in a launch-ish state, with the in-game item store live and everything, but Red 5 wants more feedback and to give the servers a good testing before officially going live.

Right up my alley is Minimum, a free-to-play shooter from TimeGate studios, creator of the Section 8 games and, ah, co-developer of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Hawken dev details the challenges of virtual reality

After it was revealed that Doom 3: BFG would not be shipping with the Oculus Rift, another game had to step forward to be the pack in for the VR goggles once they shipped to retail. Adhesive Games' Hawken accepted the challenge.

Total War: Arena is free-to-play RTS-MOBA-y thing

The Creative Assembly today threw its hat in the general direction of the battle arena, announcing Total War: Arena, which does try something new. The free-to-play PC game will see 10v10 matches where each player controls three units.
