Heroes of Newerth dev announces new MOBA, Strife

Heroes of Newerth was once the most the main alternative to League of Legends, as the most faithful update of the original DotA mod. Then Valve swaggered in and Dota 2 muscled HoN out. S2 Games isn't giving up on Dote 'em ups, though, and is coming back with Strife. Described as a "second generation" MOBA, it'll be free-to-play on PC.

MechWarrior Online now rocking 12v12

If 16 robots stomping around the battlefield is a barrel of laughs, just imagine how much fun 24 is. MechWarrior Online has hoped for a long time that it'd be able to support 12v12 matches, but ran at 8v8 for most of its beta. With the official launch only six weeks away, the free-to-play robomash finally now lets 24 players throw down.

Dead Island: Epidemic is a free-to-play MOBA

Perhaps zombies are getting a little long in the tooth, but you know what's new and fresh? Dote 'em ups! (Lords Management Games, if you like. MOBAs only if you really insist.) Publisher Deep Silver today announced it's smooshing the two together in Dead Island: Epidemic, a free-to-play PC game.

Dragon's Prophet MMO launching on September 18

Runewaker's free-to-play dragon-riding MMORPG Dragon's Prophet will officially launch for PC on September 18, publisher Sony Online Entertainment has announced. It's currently in open beta testing so you can play it now if you really want, but it's reportedly a bit wonky so you may want to wait until everything's properly ready.

Ace Combat Infinity for PS3 is free-to-play

Namco Bandai's announcement of Ace Combat Infinity last month was pretty light on details, basically saying only that it's a downloadable PS3-exclusive shooty plane game. Well gosh golly, the publisher today announced it's actually free-to-play, and dropped a new trailer.
