Syndicate Wars co-creator crowdfunding 'spiritual successor' Satellite Reign

Starbreeze's recent FPS reboot Syndicate did offer some jolly pleasant cyborg murder machine co-op action, but it was certainly nothing like the original. It may not matter if rights-holder EA has no interest in careful top-down tactical games, as Syndicate Wars co-creator Mike Diskett is crowdfunding a "spiritual successor" to Bullfrog's classic cyberpunk series under the name Satellite Reign.

Cosmic Star Heroine announced by Penny Arcade dev Zeboyd

After two years on the Penny Arcade series, Zeboyd Games is back to doing its own thing. The retro RPG enthusiast yesterday announced its next game, Cosmic Star Heroine, a sci-fi RPG starring a space-spy catapulted to fame and perilous danger after her cover is blown.

You there, do you fancy a PC tactical shooter lead by the creative director of the first two SOCOM games? Prove it. David Sears and the gang at Special Operations Forces Studios are trying to crowdfund "a spiritual successor" to those PS2 games, or more accurately a showcase demo it can use to land venture capitalist funding and finish the full game.

Double Fine's Massive Chalice passes Kickstarter goal

Turns out, people are pretty keen to see more games from Double Fine. Who knew? The Psychonauts dev's pitch for roguelike-inspired strategy RPG Massive Chalice has apparently struck a chord, passing its crowdfunding goal of $725,000 in only five days. Gosh, and it still has 23 days left to run.

City Quest Oculus Rift mode drags 2D adventure game into delightful 3D

As time of yore known only as 'retro' trundles towards the early Nineties, developer Stone Monkey Studios has combined two cool but sort-of-incompatible things from 20-odd years ago: 2D adventure games and virtual reality. In a charming bit of creativity (not to mention creative marketing), the two-man team created an Oculus Rift mode for City Quest: A Point & Click Adventure where you play it on a 3D computer at a 3D desk in a 3D room.

After it's successful push to fund Broken Age, Double Fine has gone back to the crowdfunding well again, launching another Kickstarter campaign to the crowdfunding well again, launching another Kickstarter campaign to fund a new turn-based tactics title set in a feudal fantasy world called Massive Chalice. The goal is $725,000.

Heavy Gear Assault continues crowdfunding on Kickstarter

After several months of running its own custom crowdfunding campaign without a great amount of success, Heavy Gear Assault developer MekTek Studios has launched a bona fide Kickstarter© to get things rolling. To drum up a little more enthusiasm for the free-to-play mecha shooter, it's released a short in-game snippet showing off its destructible environments in Unreal Engine 4.
