Brathwaite and Hall scrap old-school RPG Kickstarter

Revered industry veterans Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall launching a crowd-funding campaign to make an "old-school RPG" certainly seemed exciting, but they offered very few details on what they planned to make at Loot Drop beyond that it'd be, well, some sort of old-school RPG. Having only raised a quarter of the million dollars they were shooting for with two-thirds of the fundraising time gone, they've conceded that the pitch for Shaker was weak and scrapped the Kickstarter, vowing to return.

Star Citizen adds Kickstarter as crowdfunding option

After a faulty launch of its own crowdfunding campaign for Star Citizen, Cloud Imperium Games and developer Chris Roberts have added Kickstarter as an option for donations to relieve its beleaguered Roberts Space Industries web site.

Beneath a Steel Sky 2 coming despite missing Kickstarter goal

Revolution Software's Kickstarter campaign to crowd-fund Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse was a huge success, doubling its initial goal of $400,000. While it smashed through several goals, it fell short of the big, exciting target for $1,000,000--a sequel to dystopian adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky. Happily, Revolution now says that it'll go ahead and make that anyway.

Part of the lure of Kickstarter for developers is that they're free from the demands of publishers, able to make whatever they want, however they want, for as long as they want, and own everything they do. Publishers, unsurprisingly, may want in on this crowd-funding lark. Obsidian Entertainment, now riding high on its own smash-hit Kickstarter, has said that several publishers had approached Obsidian to front a campaign then join up with them to publish it.

Project Eternity characters and parties explained

For those who'd like to know more about Obsidian's old-school RPG, codenamed 'Project Eternity,' before Kickstarting it, the Fallout: New Vegas developer has shared new details on making your own character, forming a party, and more. It's also for, you know, those who already helped the game blast past its funding goal, and who are now hoovering up all information to sustain them for the long, long wait before it's released.

Project Eternity aiming for M-rated fantasy story, but 'no fart jokes'

Obsidian Entertainment's recently announced Project Eternity has gotten RPG fans buzzing about the new game, so much so that the company blew through the $1.1 million barrier it was seeking a mere 30 hours after its Kickstarter campaign launched. We talk briefly with Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart about the game.
