Torment: Tides of Numenera shatters Kickstarter record

We don't often report on Kickstarter projects before they are fully funded, but the just-launched crowdfunding for Torment: Tides of Numenera is an exception. When a game blasts through its $900,000 goal, tops $1 million in record time, and blows through two stretch goals in the first 24 hours, that's worth noting.

Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter launched

Hey, you! Do you want a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment? I am, of course, only asking for rhetorical effect: you do. You'll need to pay for it, though. inXile Entertainment today launched its crowdfunding campaign to make Torment: Tides of Numenera, a thematic and tonal follow-up set in the Numenera universe--itself a Kickstarter success. inXile needs $900,000 to make the RPG for PC, Mac and Linux, so get pledging.

Dreamfall Chapters trailer is pretty

Have you pledged money to the Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey crowdfunding campaign yet? Yes? Then you'll be thrilled by this new trailer for Ragnar Tørnquist's conclusion to the adventure game trilogy. No? Then perhaps this'll win you over. Or not. Whatever. Watch it, if you want. The game's smashing through stretch goals like nobody's business so it doesn't particularly need your help, but it'd still like it.

Skullgirls crowdfunding new characters

Shutting down the team behind a game usually spells more than a mite of trouble for a game, but Skullgirls is recovering nicely after Reverge Labs laid off its makers last June. The team reformed as Lab Zero Games, is working on a PC version, and is now receiving huge sums of money from fans crowdfunding DLC characters for the hand-drawn fighting game. You can chip in too, if you fancy.

Heavy Gear Assault announced for PC, seeking crowdfunding

Typical! You wait a decade for a giant killbot game, then three come along at once. Publisher Stompy Bot Productions today announced Heavy Gear Assault, seeking $900,000 in crowdfunding to bring the free-to-play multiplayer game to PC. It's being made by MekTek Studios, the folks who jazzed up MechWarrior 4 for its free re-release in 2010.

Takedown tactical FPS picked up by 505 Games

Takedown was unusual amongst crowd-funded games in that developer Serellan was looking to make a prototype, which it would then shop around to raise more money and actually make the game. Unconventional, but it's worked. Publisher 505 Games today announced that it has picked up the tactical FPS and will release it later this year under the name Takedown: Red Sabre.

Dreamfall Chapters reveals prototype gameplay as Kickstarter goal nearly hit

Well then, an awful lot of people were certainly waiting for more of The Longest Journey. Creator Ragnar Tørnquist's Kickstarter campaign seeking $850,000 to conclude the trilogy with Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey has passed 90% of that goal in only one week, prompting the release of some prototype gameplay footage and the revelation of stretch goals.

Wasteland 2 walkthrough reveals early gameplay

Ten months after its smash-hit Kickstarter ended, inXile Entertainment has shown off the first proper footage of the crowdfunded Wasteland 2. The trailer packs a whopping fifteen minutes of post-apocalyptic RPG fun, narrated by dev director Chris Keenan, looking a fine follow-up to the 1998 classic.
